take one chance.

Sometimes you just have to take a chance. Maybe its a situation you’re struggling with, a decision you need to make. Maybe its a person who needs you. Maybe it something bigger than that, a small step that will lead to another small step, all making up a big step.

We studied love tonight. What love looks like in our culture, what it can be confused with, what it actually is. For a lot of people, love is a huge chance, a big step. Sharing feelings, taking that risk is the scariest possible scenario. So many times love is seen as things. As “will they give it back?” As some unattainable perfect construct that only the luckiest of lucky people ever find.

Recently, really recently, I started to realize that I love people. I’m not saying I love hanging out with people, or that people do stuff that I always love, or even that I feel really loving towards people all the time. But I am saying that I love people. I love their crap, I love their resilience, i love their feelings, i love their pain, i love their vulnerability, i love their humor, i love their laughter, i love their tears, i love their openness, i love their walls, i love their opinions, their insight, their passion and dislikes. I want to know people. I want to hear them. I want to care for them. i want to love people.

I don’t know where you are, what you’re doing, how you’re journeying….but I do know this. love? we all need it. we all crave it. maybe you can’t even put your finger on what you’re searching for, maybe you feel lonely, maybe you’re driven to succeed, maybe you want all the newest toys, or you have to be the best at what you do. maybe you want someone to pay attention to you, you need someone to talk to, you are longing for something to touch your soul. but doesn’t it all boil down to love?

too many people are in situations they think are love, but aren’t. and too many people are so wounded they can’t recognize love standing in front of them. so when you encounter these people in your day, give them a smile, say something nice, listen to their story. who knows? Could be you on the receiving end of their love when you didn’t even know you needed it.
